While it appears that Organic and Biodynamic are relatively new terms, the truth is there’s really nothing new about them. You may know Organic farming by its old name: farming. Biodynamics is quite a bit different. It is conscious, accountable, sustainable agriculture with a little earth-friendly vibe and science mixed in.
Soils are alive! They are the 'skin' of the earth and like our own skin, need care. Growing the best possible wine means getting as much out of the soil as one can with respect to the environment and considerations toward leaving healthy soil for future generations.
This is the way it was always done until 20th century agriculture with modern achievements literally changed the face of the earth. The 'industrial food system’ was born and in many ways is becoming our downfall.
From the agricultural revolution to the revolution against industrial agriculture (now on our doorstep), eyes and ears are opening and more people are listening to their bodies, minds, hearts and the earth by rebuilding and supporting local, sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming methods. Join us as we change the earth and our habits to create healthy, sustainable life-styles.

Eco-Friendly Wine Defined
100% Organic” or 100% Certified Organic wine is made from organic grapes without the use of added sulfites. These wines have naturally occurring sulfites; with the total sulfite level less than 20 ppm. Wines bearing this label must give information about their certifying agency. Organic standards are monitored and regulated by individual certifying agencies. In addition, Certified Organic processing requires that no synthetic agents be used in the clarifying process and that equipment be sterilized with hot water/steam rather than chemical agents. California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) is California’s most respected certifying agency.

What is Biodynamic in Wine?
Biodynamic speaks to the healing of the Earth and the renewal of vitality to our land. It is modern science integrated with ancient wisdom creating a sort of spiritual science to nurture our damaged planet. Biodynamic vineyards vibrate with life in a way that one can’t quite put a finger on. Not all practicing biodynamic vineyards are organic. Some are working diseased soils back to health, which can take a long time. This is the essence of biodynamics. Biodynamic wines focus on terroir, a special sense of place, through being in tune with the totality of life forces (energy) affecting the growth of that site’s vines, remembering that everything in the vineyard (and everywhere) depends on everything else.
Certified Biodynamic is sometimes called "beyond organic"; besides being 100% organic, these wines are certified by Demeter (the international certifying body for biodynamics named after the Greek goddess of agriculture). Biodynamic winegrowers have gone beyond the vineyard to the planet, air, and cosmos embracing a holistic view of the vineyard as a living organism. All materials used in a biodynamic vineyard are generated within the vineyard.
Biodynamic vs. Organic
Organic growers listen to nature, doing all the good things that we know
organic farmers do. Biodynamics takes things one step further and considers
the harmony of nature. After one visit to a biodynamic property one
is convinced that the practice improves quality and we believe, tasting
is believing.
